Pink Trees for Pauline gripped the hearts and imaginations of thousands across South Africa and Namibia in 2013. In recent months it was inspiring to see whole towns and kilometres of roads turn pink. Witnessing this transformation brought with it the realisation that the testimonies of hope, closure, calm and healing were real – the process of wrapping trees in pink material literally touched people’s hearts.

In George the wave started as a mere ripple, but before long the swell was awe-inspiring. People from all communities opened their hearts and gave without reservation. The overwhelming generosity with which people gave, and the passionate effort that was put into the Pink Trees for Pauline project in George, made everyone proud to be part of this community.

More than 4 000m of material was sold in George, and with R75 000 raised, Pink Trees for Pauline will be able to contribute to organisations in need who support cancer communities in George.

The Irma Bruschi Interim House is a safe haven for people undergoing cancer treatment and people recovering from cancer. People who stay here will otherwise not be able to afford accommodation while receiving treatment. At the Interim House, patients are able to take in the serene surroundings and enjoy comforting bedding. Because of Interim House they only have to concentrate on getting well and Pink Trees for Pauline in George is grateful to contribute.

Pink Trees for Pauline, in association with Glenwood House, will also be developing a play area for children at the George Hospital.
Cancervive and hospice will each also receive a donation from the Pink Trees for Pauline project to continue their good work.

The generosity of sponsors in George was heartwarming. Pink Trees for Pauline in George donated all the material used in 2013 in George to the Emmaüs Protective Work Center for Adult Disabled. They are removing the pink fabric, which they will re-use to make products in order to sell and raise funds for their facility. If you still have a pink tree on your property, please be so kind as to take down the material and drop it off at Emmaüs George. Philanthropist W Clement Stone once said, “If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share.”

Pink Trees for Pauline in George wants to thank everybody who contributed to the project in 2013. You gave so much and by doing so you put us in a position to share that with the cancer communities in George.

Pink Trees for Pauline evolved into something never experienced before in cancer awareness and fundraising. The project was embraced by the public and it is a privilege to be a part of it. We are in the process of wrapping up Pink Trees for Pauline 2013 and we will soon start planning the drive for 2014. It promises to be even greater than 2013.
