Henry Ford said “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” Pink Trees for Pauline and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) collaborated in the 2015 project to make the drive to raise funds for cancer communities throughout South Africa a success. More hands and feet worked endlessly for weeks on end to wrap South Africa in pink…and in 2016 these two organisations will continue their partnership to help those affected with cancer in South Africa.
Managing Director of Pink Trees for Pauline, Adri Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen stated that working with CANSA was an honour. CANSA implemented the project in over 40 towns in 2015. With all the resources and volunteers available at least 20% more of the population of South Africa were reached during the 2015 campaign. “After almost four years the biggest reward is still knowing that funds raised in towns are allocated to the cancer communities of those specific towns.”
CANSA is very excited to be partnering again with Pink Trees for Pauline campaign in 2016. Says Gerda Strauss, CANSA’s Head of Service Delivery, “Not only is valuable cancer education awareness being raised, we’re also helping to raise funds for cancer patients directly that are currently fighting cancer. Last year, the campaign raised almost R150 000 which was used to purchase wheel chairs, walkers and egg shell mattresses for cancer patients. Money was also allocated towards transport costs to and from treatment centres and hospitals as well as accommodation at our CANSA Care Homes.” CANSA encourages the communities to go ‘pink’ and show support for the campaign. “Help us to help patients cope with treatment – income raised from the Pink Trees for Pauline 2016 campaign is being set aside for accommodation during cancer treatment, home-based care nursing, feeding schemes for cancer affected patients, training social workers and also for supplying wigs, prosthesis and wheelchairs,” concluded Strauss.
